We are proposing a mixed-use housing development that not only meets but surpasses innovative sustainable building practices, including LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), and going beyond those practices through enhancing trails and greenspace.  This proposal will feature 31 single-family homes, 92 townhomes, and 141 condominium units and is planned on land that is neither farmable nor in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).

This video shows many examples of the positive environmental innovations as well as the sustainability vision of what the Vantreight family are hoping to achieve with their Hill Development proposed in Central Saanich.

This higher-density, mixed-use residential community leaves more public greenspace than an ordinary development made up entirely of single-family homes and provides the opportunity for much more innovative environmental design. The proposed development will allow for the use of green building techniques, increase the municipal tax base and population density required to make public transit viable, provide cash injections for affordable housing projects, preserve more ALR land as active farmland, create walking and cycling pathway connections into Saanichton Village and save taxpayer money by allowing the development of already-serviced lands.

This development is essential for Vantreight Farms to modernize and expand its operations so they are sustainable in the face of increasing climate change. Net revenue generated from the development of this property will be invested back into Vantreight Farms, which grows 18 million daffodils each year, and generates over 1,500 jobs annually. This will help us become economically, environmentally and socially sustainable and set a new standard for environmentally friendly farming in this area for generations to come.

This is the rehearsal presentation to the advisory planning committee regarding our application to amend the Official Community Plan (OCP) to include a portion of our property in the Urban Containment Boundary. This 6 part series explains what we, the Vantreight family, are proposing with our mixed-use housing development proposal located in Central Saanich on Vancouver Island. This series of videos explains how this development is essential for us to modernize and expand our farming operations so we can secure land for future food and flower production that will be sustainable in the face of increasing climate change.
