ORGANIC
Organic farming is a form of agriculture that relies on crop rotation, green manure, compost, biological pest control, and mechanical cultivation to maintain soil productivity and control pests, excluding or strictly limiting the use of synthetic fertilizers and synthetic pesticides, plant growth regulators, livestock feed additives, and genetically modified organisms.
In 2010 we applied for Organic Certification for our greenhouses and land immediately adjacent to them totalling approximately 3.4 ha (8.3 acres). Today, we are proud to have expanded that program to approximately 40.47 ha (100 acres) of Certified Organic growing for the 2014 season! (2012 season 25 acres Certified Organic - 75 Acres Transitional Organic)
Even though we still have crops that will not be grown organically, with the use of IPM we will be able to hold true to our commitment to reduce pesticide and herbicide use on our farm. We think that you and your family deserve only the best quality food and a healthy environment; food that is great tasting, healthy, nourishing and grown in an ecological manner. We are also certified under the Local Food Plus (LFP) program to identify our farm as a certified local sustainable food source.
With the help of the Pacific Agricultural Certification Society (PACS), our goal is to expand our certification in the future to include more of the land we farm for food. For now, while we are in transition, we are very proud of our organically grown local produce and we know you will enjoy the quality and taste!
